Sinclair Building, Oxford Brookes University

Refurbishment of the 1950’s Sinclair building provides specialist laboratory facilities. Building services and the façade were renewed to a tight budget thereby improving energy efficiency and meeting the demanding science teaching criteria. Replacing the façade, whilst the building was occupied, was a challenge. To achieve this, a new external façade was designed to overclad the existing façade. As each floor was refurbished, the old façade was removed from the inside. The additional Sinclair Annexe re-purposed the old student union providing a highly sensitive microscopy laboratory.
