School Hall, Wychwood School, Oxford

From volleyball to theatrical productions, this multi-purpose hall needed to be flexible enough to accommodate different uses. Wychwood School is an Independent School located within a residential area in North Oxford. The new building was constructed on a difficult and restricted site. Careful negotiations were required with the planning department and neighbours to arrive at an acceptable design solution.  A pitched roof with a glazed clerestory creates a light airy interior with the ceiling height required to play volleyball. A high level of acoustic standards was needed for performances, together with raked movable seating and stage lighting.
