The project brief was to refurbish and extend the main college kitchens and buttery, increase fellows’ dining facilities, refurbish fellows’ common rooms and guest areas, and to restore the main college dining hall and medieval kitchen. Further discussions with the client led to the inclusion of additional WC facilities for the main hall, the creation of a new terrace area and upgrading of existing basements. Since the project required works to both Grade I and Grade II listed buildings and the insertion of new lifts, circulation routes and plant rooms, close consultation with English Heritage and Oxford City Council meant we were able to meet the requirements of the brief whilst enhancing the significance and visibility of the historic buildings.
