h-Bar, Imperial College London

A dated basement student pub was redeveloped into a modern bar with catered social space for 350 staff and students. The ‘h-Bar’ now has a warm and distinctive atmosphere, and delivers the flexibility to meet the University’s changing needs. Essential to achieving this, were design solutions including movable partitions, intelligent lighting and use of fixed and loose furniture. The bar includes a range of efficient design features, enabling staffing by as few as one or two people. New delivery routes and circulation zones were created to overcome access issues, while the main space maximises natural light to improve user comfort.
