Gibbs Crescent

Gibbs Crescent is a development of 84 flats, consisting of 72 one person studios and 12 one bedroom flats. The project was to develop a derelict coal yard site for Cherwell Housing Association Single Person accommodation.
The site faces south overlooking a canal, so the design was developed as a crescent to ensure that everybody benefitted from the views and orientation. Economy of construction was achieved by planning the blocks as simple rectangles. The change of angle required to form the crescent was achieved by having wedge shaped staircases. A large communal garden is available to all residents.
