The Wilson plays a prominent cultural role within Cheltenham and the wider Cotswold region. The new gallery is designed to harmonise with the existing grade II listed museum building. Vertically stacked galleries are joined to existing via a new full height circulation void. The building provides education and outreach spaces, open archives, increased storage areas and a café and shop. Since completion, visitor numbers went from 72,000 in 2010 to in excess of 240,000 in 2013.
