The Alan Walters Building for the University of Birmingham provides high quality specialist teaching spaces that include, two lecture theatres, a mock trading room, informal learning spaces and supporting offices. The design creates a high quality open, collaborative environment to attract and retain the best students and staff. Integral to this is the central social space, arranged over three floors through the heart of the building. All functional spaces open into this central space, to strengthen the sense of community. The building is designed to integrate into the wider campus setting, adjacent to the iconic 1969 Arup Associates Muirhead Tower, and form part of the new ‘Green Heart’ campus master plan.
