The ’Old Mailing Shed’ is an existing early twentieth century industrial building typical of its type for the period, being two bays of northlight steel trusses with patent glazing to the steeper north facing roof pitches. The fabric of the existing building and majority of the existing walls are being retained to conserve the character of the building and to reduce the extra cost and unnecessary energy consumption.
Oxford University Press are keen to adopt an ecologically sound approach to the refurbishment. Current proposed strategies include: rain water collection, high levels of mineral wool insulation and displacement ventilation.
