St John´s College, Oxford
This infill building completing as a small quad is at the heart of the
college. The MCR was constructed as an “air rights” building over the
squash courts and provides a large social space, TV room, two quiet
rooms and a computer room.
Within this controlled steel and glass envelope, a more fluid arrangement of curved lightweight walls was developed to create interesting internal spaces.
To emphasise the quality of quiet reading spaces, oak panels line the ceiling and reading room walls which also contrast with the exposed stainless steel structure.
