Ashley and Strathcona Buildings. University of Birmingham

These Grade 2 listed buildings designed by Howell, Killick, Partridge & Amis, for the Faculty of Commerce and Social Science were badly in need of services upgrade to meet new demands in IT, audio visual, lighting, heating & cooling. Refurbishment & renewal of finishes was needed to reinstate them to their original quality. Insertion of new services was particularly challenging as the buildings have an exposed concrete frame with low ceiling heights & little or no suspended ceilings.
The internal black and white colour scheme was reinstated & complimented by a limited palette of strong colours in other areas.
