Wychwood School
From volleyball to theatrical productions, this multi-purpose hall needed to be flexible enough to accommodate different uses.
Wychwood School is an Independent School located within a residential area in North Oxford. The new building had to be constructed on a difficult and restricted site surrounded by a number of mature trees. Careful negotiations were required with the planning department and neighbours, to arrive at an acceptable design solution.
Brick, slate and cedar weather boarding were used in the design of the new building to complement the existing buildings on the site. A pitched roof with a glazed clerestory has created a light airy interior with the ceiling height required to play volleyball. A high level of acoustic standards was required for performances, together with raked movable seating and stage lighting.
