The Gateway
This Gateway has been designed for a major academic institution in South Kensington. Berman Guedes Stretton´s approach was to consider not only the visual characteristics, but also take the opportunity to solve security issues and create a new venue space.
Taking the form of a hyperbolic paraboloid, the structure is based on pure geometric models to reflect the science and mathematics heritage of the client. This is further expressed by images of scientific endeavour projected into the skin’s illuminated surface capturing the attention and imagination of passers-by.
As the Victorians understood the nature of ´entrance´ with their dramatically canopied stations, so too is this Gateway an appropriate entrance for a University which was largely founded on the same pioneering spirit.
